ABOUT THE ROLE
TransAlta operates and maintains 6 Power Stations in Western Australia. With a nearly 30-year history in the Western Australia, we provide safe, clean and reliable power to large mining and industrial customers and have invested significantly in stable, long-term contracts.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Operations & Maintenance Technician (OMT) to join our team in South Hedland! This position reports to the Supervisor, South Hedland Power Station (SHPS) with day-to-day functional interaction and communication with the Regional Plant Manager and the Regional Control Centre Operators.
The OMTs will have an overall focus on the safe and efficient Operations and Maintenance of TransAlta’s operating assets at South Hedland Power Station. The position is primarily day shift with occasional night shift duties with an 8/6 FIFO from Perth. Occasional travel to all operating sites is also a requirement of this position.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
- Compliance with all TransAlta Safety Policies, Standards and Procedures
- Carrying out maintenance and planning activities in line with the Work Management Process
- Completing maintenance activities in a timely, competent and cost-effective manner
- Troubleshoot problems with plant equipment for the purpose of supply restoration
- Participate in Incident Investigations proving expert opinion in areas of expertise
- Provide detailed reports during routine maintenance tasks and unplanned maintenance events
- Training of new staff members in the maintenance department
- Supervision of contract support staff ensuring safe work standards are maintained
- Daily collaboration with Regional Control System Operators on plant performance and daily required maintenance schedule
- Other duties as required and commensurate with role and qualifications
ABOUT YOU
To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:
- Mechanical trade qualification
- A Valid C class Australian Drivers licence (manual transmission)
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Ability to work safely both independently and in a team environment
- Intermediate computer skills (email, word, spreadsheet) are required
- Must be able to work in hot & cold environments, at heights and within confined spaces
- Working knowledge of and the ability to interpret mechanical, electrical and P&ID drawings, and specifications
- Understanding of power generation, transmission and distribution
NICE TO HAVES
The following qualifications and/or experience are desirable, but not essential:
- Experience in Aeroderivative or Heavy-Duty Gas Turbines will be highly regarded
- Experience working with Steam, Boiler and Water Treatment will be considered highly
- Experience in Control Systems
