TransAlta operates and maintains 6 Power Stations in Western Australia. With a 20-year history in the State, we provide safe, clean and reliable power to large mining and industrial customers and have invested significantly in stable, long-term contracts. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Power Station Operator to join our team in South Hedland, working on WA’s newest power station. 


This is a residential role, with the Plant located in South Hedland Region. You will report to the Plant Manager, and take daily direction from the Operations Superintendent.


Your core duties will include:

·         · Provide and interpret accurate and timely data to ensure the plant performance of the can be determined at any given time.
· Compliance with all TransAlta Safety Policies, Standards and Procedures
· Incident reporting will be completed in an accurate and timely manner, including
raising of necessary work orders.
· Use available tools to proactively identify risks to the operations and Australian
· Operate the system in the most cost effective manner, in line with all associated business PPA’s, maintaining safety of personnel.
· All relevant data collected after abnormal events, i.e. alarm logs, event logs + trends
etc, and stored in an appropriate reporting tools. Engine performance issues to be escalated in a timely manner.
· Log keeping of a high standard.
· Troubleshoot problems with plant equipment.
· Participate in Incident Investigations proving expert opinion in areas of expertise.
· Training of new staff members in the operations department.
· Supervision of contract support staff ensuring safe work standards are maintained.
· Daily collaboration with Maintenance Staff on plant performance and daily required maintenance schedule.
· Actively participate in safety initiatives and systems to ensure all work is carried out safely;

To be considered for this role you will need the following qualifications/skills:

· Trade qualified or similar in either Electrical or Mechanical discipline, or higher.

· Water treatment experience and qualifications will be highly regarded

· Power Station experience highly desirable

· Hazardous areas or Gas fitting certifications are also desirable

· Boiler (BI) and Turbine operator (TO) high risk certifications will be highly regarded
· Intermediate computer skills (email, word, spread sheet and databases) are required.
· Working knowledge of and the ability to interpret mechanical, electrical and P&ID drawings and specifications.
