ABOUT THE ROLE

 

TransAlta operates and maintains Power Stations in Western Australia. With a 30-year history in the State, we provide a reliable power supply to large industrial customers and have invested significantly in stable, long-term contracts. Reporting to the Regional Manager, South Hedland Power Station (SHPS) the  Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that all maintenance tasks are performed safely and within budget and that the use of facilities and equipment is appropriate to safe work methods and statutory requirements ensuring the contribution of the team to TransAlta safety programs and initiatives.

 

Working daily with a team of Maintenance Technicians, the Supervisor is responsible for daily allocation of tasks, rostering, reporting, daily interaction with the Regional Control Centre and general supervision of the team. This role will work closely with the Engineering and Environment Health Safety & Training (EHS&T) team.  

 

This is a fly-in fly-out position working an 8/6 roster. 

 

A DAY IN THE LIFE

 

  • Supervise and manage Power Station staff to meet the goals and objectives set out by the Company.
  • Ensure Compliance with all company policies, procedures, and commercial commitments.
  • Oversee the planning implementation of maintenance, outage and project activities.
  • Oversite an input into Computerised Maintenance Management systems (CMMS) such as SAP.
  • Ensure the Power Station is operated in a safe manner and ensure that a safe work environment is provided and maintained to minimize the risk of accidents and injuries.
  • Effectively managing plant availability.
  • Ensuring staff are adequately trained, qualified and competent in their roles and compliant with mandatory training.
  • Building of teams and cross-business collaboration with peers, as well as ability to manage, develop and motivate a team of multiskilled Operator Maintainers.
  • Manage all subcontractors while onsite.
  • Upholding TransAlta values, thereby maintaining and enhancing reputation and stakeholder relations.

 

ABOUT YOU

 

  • 5+ years’ experience in a leadership role in a Power Generation, Mining plants or other Large Industrial sites.
  • A technical background in Mechanical, Electrical or Control systems. A tertiary qualification in one of these disciplines would be an advantage. 
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, drawings and procedures.
  • Strong analytical skills to make sound professional judgments and recommendations.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience developing plant and HSE risk assessments.
  • Exposure to Financial budgets.

 

NICE TO HAVES

 

  • High Risk Work Licence (HRWL) for Boiler Operator and Turbine Operation.
  • Western Australian Electrical License.
  • Certificate competency “Gas Fitter Supervised”.
  • Exposure to Operations and Maintenance of Gas Turbines and associated Balance of Plant (BOP).
