ABOUT THE ROLE
Under the direction of the Turbine Plant Operator II, employees perform various site management and administrative functions associated with the operation and maintenance of the Gas Turbine Generating Stations in accordance with company procedures, system controller and power pool dispatch instructions. This is a full-time salaried, union role based out of our Valleyview Generating Station in Valleyview Alberta.
This position is safety sensitive. The successful candidate will be required to complete pre-employment testing.

A DAY IN THE LIFE
Under the close supervision of the lead operator, employees assist with performing basic site management, operations and maintenance functions. Typical duties may include but are not limited to assisting with:
Site Management Function
- Providing and submitting capacity information to the Power Pool of Alberta and to restate when necessary, in accordance with management instructions.
- Preparing and maintaining monthly operations and site performance reports.
- Purchasing various goods and materials and maintaining records of site inventory of consumables, tools and spare parts and processing all related documentation.
- Overseeing/supervising the work of external contractors and temporary employees on-site.
- Implementation of corporate HSSE policies and procedures, ensuring all required training is kept current.
Operations Function
- Coordinating daily operations with the Operations Supervisor and the Heartland Real-Time Analyst.
- Operating the gas turbines in response to System Dispatch and in accordance with established guidelines. This includes starting, loading or shutting down units.
- Performing routine operating tasks such as cleaning, checking and/or changing fluid (oil, glycol, filters) levels, lubricates equipment, completing minor repairs and/or replacing defective components.
- Issues and holds work permits for contractors and/or maintenance personnel.
Maintenance Function
- Identifying and reporting suspected or actual equipment failures based on observations and readings of plant instrumentation. Analyzing failures and completing minor repairs.
- Supporting the planning and performance of maintenance activities at site
- Providing assistance to maintenance staff and contractors in locating and isolating system problems.
- Documenting and maintaining all maintenance activities.
All duties and responsibilities will be performed in accordance with established health, safety and environmental principles, corporate policies, practices and procedures and applicable government legislation.
ABOUT YOU
- Completion of Grade XII
- 0 – 2 years of related experience with the operation of a gas turbine power plant
- A Fourth-Class Power Engineering Certificate of Competency is preferred, however mechanical experience with aero derivative gas turbines will also be considered
- Must have a valid Alberta operators license (minimum class 5)
- Possession of a trades ticket or relevant trade-related experience would be considered an asset
- This position is based in our core area of operations in Valleyview, Alberta; therefore, the successful candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of this location (ideally 80–120 km)
