ABOUT THE ROLE
TransAlta is currently hiring for a Mechanical Specialist – Electrical Instrumentation Technician. Reporting to the Windsor Plant Manager, the E/I Technician maintains, repairs, and troubleshoots plant electrical/instrumentation systems to ensure safe, reliable operations.
This is a full-time, unionized, safety-sensitive position. Pre-employment testing will be required as a condition of employment.
This is a Unifor Local 444 position covered by the terms of the collective agreement.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
- Maintain, repair, and troubleshoot plant electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
- Perform preventative and predictive maintenance and submit work requests.
- Ensure equipment meets safety, regulatory, and performance requirements.
- Follow safe isolation, electrical safety, and maintenance procedures.
- Maintain accurate CMMS records and support reliability improvements.
- Respond to call‑outs for urgent electrical/instrumentation issues.
- Work with contractors and Maintenance Support Staff; help manage spare parts.
- Train and support team members on EI maintenance practices.
- Perform routine housekeeping and other duties as assigned.
ABOUT YOU
- Electrical Trade Certificate or Instrumentation Technologist Certificate (dual trade an asset).
- Skilled in troubleshooting, preventative/predictive maintenance, and work management.
- Comfortable using business IT systems; SAP experience an asset.
- Strong understanding of safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
- Excellent problem‑solving and communication skills.
- Detail‑oriented, quick to learn, and proactive in your work.
- Able to perform under pressure, adapt to changing priorities, and work well in a team.
- Customer‑service mindset with integrity, resilience, and initiative.
THE PERKS
This position is covered under the Unifor Local 444 collective agreement. The current union hourly rate for the Maintenance Specialist – Electrical Instrumentation Technician is CAD$60.77.
