ABOUT THE ROLE
TransAlta has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and passionate Wind Technician to join our Wind Operations team on Wolfe Island.
As the Wind Technician, you are primarily responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of the Wolfe Island wind asset through the application of operating/maintenance standards, procedures, and processes that ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. You will also help develop and implement operations and maintenance strategies. Along with being accountable for ensuring the portfolio adheres to TransAlta’s operating model.
This is full-time, salaried position based out of our Wind Facility on Wolfe Island. Working on Wolfe Island offers a scenic, community‑oriented setting with great access to nature and outdoor activities. Access to the site involves a free, 20‑minute vehicle ferry ride each day.
As this role is safety-sensitive, the successful candidate will be required to complete pre-employment testing.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
- Ensure optimal performance through daily work scheduling, planning, and implementation of maintenance, service, and repair of wind turbine equipment as part of a team of wind technicians and contractors capable of producing the agreed deliverables
- Support the daily to three-month operations and maintenance plan in alignment with the Supervisor’s business plan by driving operational performance, achievement of business results, and continuous improvement
- Support the Lead Technician(s) and Supervisor as part of a high-performance team of employees and contractors to achieve the expected outcomes of the plants
- Identifying and mitigating risks that could negatively impact the agreed outcomes or business results, and identifying and realizing opportunities that could positively impact the agreed outcomes or business results
- Operational compliance to EHS, NERC, OHS, etc., plant availability, and cost standards through adherence to TransAlta operating procedures, policies, and applicable regulations
- Drive for results in the areas of safety, compliance, plant availability, and cost by ensuring all routine and preventative maintenance is performed accurately, on time, and of high quality and documented correctly
- Contribute to a collaborative work environment within the team, peers, stakeholders, and support groups to ensure issues may be resolved in a professional and productive manner
- Required to be adequately trained, qualified, and competent in their roles and compliant with training
ABOUT YOU
- Appropriate certification or education in a related discipline, and/or possess tangible and proven experience and skills
- Electrical or mechanical background is considered a strong asset
- Comprehensive understanding of concepts and principles within own discipline and knowledge of others
- Understanding of the operational aspects of the plant - technical, compliance, and financial
- Thorough understanding of the TransAlta operation model
- Plant risk and related mitigation strategies
- Understanding of contractor requirements, procurement processes, and inventory management
- Well-versed understanding of how related teams coordinate their efforts and resources to achieve objectives
THE PERKS
A reasonable estimate of the pay range is CAD$50,000 - CAD$70,000 at the time of this posting. Individual pay is determined by job-related skills, relevant experience, education, and/or training. The top end of the range is reserved for individuals with exceptional, directly relevant expertise and a demonstrated history of strong performance within TransAlta. This range reflects base pay only and does not include our competitive bonus program and benefits.
