ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re looking for a Structured Products Manager, West Trading to join our West Power Trading team on a Full-Time basis. In this role, you’ll report to the Manager of West Trading and work as a recognized subject matter expert and trusted advisor in Western Power Markets. In this senior role, you will draw on your deep market expertise and extensive industry networks to anticipate market trends, identify opportunities, and shape strategies that drive our long-term success.

As an functional lead in your field, you will be accountable for delivering results that impact the entire trading function. You will build, manage, and grow key customer relationships, develop innovative structured products and commercial solutions, and advise internal stakeholders on complex market issues and evolving regulatory landscapes.

You will operate with broad latitude in a fast-paced, complex environment, often tackling unique challenges that require conceptual thinking and creative problem-solving. This role plays a pivotal part in achieving our financial and strategic objectives, guiding the application of existing principles and contributing to new ideas that position TransAlta as a partner of choice in the Western markets.

This position is based out of our Downtown Calgary Head Office.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

Serve as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor on structured power products, recognized both within TransAlta and across the industry.
Anticipate and analyze internal and external business challenges, providing market insights and thought leadership that inform trading strategies and executive decisions.
Lead the identification, development, negotiation, and execution of complex power purchase agreements and structured transactions (swaps, options, heat rate options, congestion, emissions products) across WECC, SPP, and ERCOT.
Build, expand, and manage long-term customer relationships, acting as the primary Trading Originator and representative for Western Markets.
Apply your expertise to design innovative commercial structures that create value, manage risk, and deliver on key financial metrics.
Support the development and execution of a 1–3-year business plan, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy.
Provide coaching and informal leadership to less experienced team members; may review or guide the work of junior professionals.
Actively monitor and communicate market, competitor, industry, and regulatory trends, sharing intelligence with internal stakeholders.
Represent TransAlta at industry events and within external networks, strengthening our reputation as an industry leader and partner of choice.
Facilitate internal approvals for complex deals, ensuring robust risk management and alignment with strategic goals.

ABOUT YOU

An undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of education and significant relevant industry experience.
A minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in West Power Origination and/or trading — with proven expertise developing structured products and solutions.
A strong reputation as a market expert and trusted advisor with deep knowledge of Western Power Markets, competitors, and regulatory frameworks.
A demonstrated ability to think conceptually, navigate ambiguity, and solve unique challenges that impact the broader business.

TransAlta is currently recruiting for a Senior/Intermediate Hydro Performance Engineer to join our corporate Performance and Reliability team. In this role, you will lead performance optimization efforts across our hydro assets with a focus on long-term value creation. Registered or eligible to register as a Professional Engineer in Canadian jurisdictions
7+ hydropower or relevant experience
Deep understanding of hydropower plant operation and major mechanical components/systems
Expertise with major component condition assessments, impact of runner operating profile on maintenance, and damage mechanisms
Experience with hydro performance testing
Experience with runner design and replacements
Experience with runner repair procedures and stress modeling is considered an asset
Familiarity with predictive maintenance techniques, condition monitoring systems, and asset performance monitoring tools
Knowledge of asset management concepts, business risk assessment processes, equipment condition assessment and due diligence methods
Knowledge of water management constraints, dam safety constraints, and regulatory drivers for hydro assets is considered beneficial
Experience with business case development and delivery
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey complex topics collaborate with cross-functional teams, and present findings/recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Reporting to the Station Manager, the Maintenance and Operations Manager supports the continuous, efficient and safe day-to-day operation and maintenance of the Scotford Cogeneration station. This position will make decisions on maintenance and operating regimes, including developing and updating standard Operating procedures and safe work practices as well as support of change management. This is a line position requiring well-developed technical and people-management skills, and the ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Joint Venture (JV) partners.

This position is located at the Scotford Cogeneration Plant, just East of Fort Saskatchewan. The Scotford Cogeneration Plant is a 195-megawatt natural gas-fired cogeneration plant that meets the thermal and power needs of the Shell Scotford Upgrader Complex.

This is a full-time salaried position and is also considered a safety sensitive role. The successful candidate will be required to complete pre-employment testing.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

Ensure that safety is imparted as the top priority in all aspects of the work and in the day-to-day operations and maintenance activities and that all staff (including contractors) understand and fulfill their health, safety, and environmental responsibilities
Support and if required lead investigations for all HSE and compliance near-misses and incidents to determine root cause and preventative measure to prevent reoccurrence
Monitor and ensure processes are in place to address AESO/NERC rules and ARS compliance
Ensure facility maintenance and operations are prioritized, scheduled, and executed in accordance with the station and JV Day to day and Major Maintenance requirements.
Through the Production Specialist, oversee the day-to-day functions of the Cogen plant to meet production and cost targets safely
Oversee maintenance and engineering support to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the facility
Support the Performance and Condition Monitoring activities and cycle chemistry on behalf of the Cogen and put in place measures to optimize where appropriate
Support the outage event planning and execution in conjunction with TransAlta staff and Shell Turnaround, Major Maintenance, Running Maintenance, or Special Projects Group as appropriate
Participate in the development of the annual station business plan and manage budgeted expenditures Developing maintenance plan and life cycle planning with the Station Manager
Mentor personnel including operations, engineering, maintenance and technical groups. Ensure issues and work arising is addressed and maintain a productive and cooperative relationship with the JV Production Specialist and the Upgrader Production Manager.
Support the recruitment, Orientation and Onboarding of TransAlta staff as required
Provide input into Performance Management of TransAlta staff
Develop and ensure adherence to O&M budgets for the facility and oversee the development of long-term capital plans with the input from operations, maintenance, and engineering teams

ABOUT YOU

Possess a First Class Power Engineer’s Certificate of Competency
A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and registration, or eligible for registration, with The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) as a Professional Engineer may be considered in lieu of this
10 years’ heavy industry experience including progressively responsible roles in planning and organizing of work force activities or projects. Preference is for experience in cogeneration/power generation facility working with gas, turbines, HRSG’s, or large steam generation equipment.
Proven track record in industrial plant operation and project management would be an asset
A minimum of 10 years of this experience in a senior operating or supervisory role.
Strong leadership skills and experience in mentoring and developing staff, strong written and verbal communication, problem-solving and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer-focus and service

As the Dam Safety Engineer, you will be part of an engineering team providing technical and operational support to hydro dams across Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario. Primary Responsibilities

Support monitoring, interpretation, and troubleshooting of dam safety instrumentation, including slope inclinometers, piezometers, and weirs
Conduct dam safety engineering inspections of dams and civil structures, including canals, spillways, intakes, weirs, and penstocks
Carry out annual performance reporting on the dams, including data interpretation, identification of safety deficiencies, non-conformances, public safety issues, and potential failure modes
Provide project coordination and technical support of the dam safety dive inspection, surveying, and gate testing programs

Secondary Responsibilities

Provide supervision and project management for field work and for small-to-medium scale construction projects
Support procurement of consultants and contractors for dam safety projects, including writing request-for-proposals, proposal evaluations, and invoice evaluations
Support the Public Safety Management Program, including inspection and assessment of existing controls, writing and review of public safety management plans, assessment of public safety risk, and implementation of public safety booms and signage

ABOUT YOU

Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geological, or Geotechnical Engineering from a recognized university
5-10 years of relevant work experience
Professional Engineer in good standing (or eligibility) with engineering regulatory bodies in Canada (APEGA, PEO, EGBC)
Demonstrated knowledge and strong geotechnical understanding of dams which includes stability and seepage modeling, geotechnical design, geotechnical instrumentation analysis, dam safety reviews, dam condition assessment practices, and risk assessment
Significant field experience which includes site investigations, site inspections, soil logging and testing, civil and earthworks construction, operations, surveillance, construction drawing production and review
Skills in one or more of the following areas: concrete design and inspection, penstock design and inspection, seismic hazard analysis, GIS systems, inspection and maintenance of gates, deformation and numerical modeling, hydrology and/or surface drainage processes
In-depth technical knowledge of CDA guidelines and dam safety practices in Canada
Awareness and understanding of applicable regulations and legislations that apply to water retaining structures in Canada
Knowledge of the practices and processes associated with project management, project engineering, and engineering design

ABOUT THE ROLE

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Electrical Operations and Maintenance Technician (OMT) to join our team in the Goldfields Region of Western Australia! Reporting to the Supervisor, North Goldfields and with day-to-day functional interaction and communication with the Regional Control Centre Operators.

The Northern System Operations and Maintenance Technicians will have an overall focus on the safe and efficient Operations and Maintenance of TransAlta’s operating assets in the Goldfields region of Western Australia. The base location for this position is at TransAlta’s Leinster operating facilities, is primarily day shift with occasional night shift duties and is an 8/6 Fly in Fly out position from Perth. Occasional travel to all operating sites is also a requirement of this position.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

Support and contribute to a safe working team environment of open communication and collaboration
Carry out maintenance and planning activities in line with the Work Management Process
Troubleshoot problems with plant equipment for the purpose of supply restoration and minimise downtime
Daily collaboration with Regional Control System Operators on plant performance and daily required maintenance schedule
Undertake projects to optimise plant performance

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience:

Trade Qualified electrical discipline or higher and hold a Western Australian electrical licence.
A Valid C class Australian Drivers licence (manual transmission).
Excellent organisational and communication skills.
Ability to work safely both independently and in a team environment.
Intermediate computer skills (email, word, spread sheet, and databases) are required.
Must be able to work in hot & cold environments, at heights and within confined spaces.
Working knowledge of and the ability to interpret mechanical, electrical and P&ID drawings, specifications, and wiring diagrams.
Working knowledge of power generation, transmission and distribution.

NICE TO HAVES

The following qualifications and/or experience are desirable, but not essential:

Experience in Aeroderivative or Heavy-Duty Gas Turbines will be highly regarded.
Experience in Control Systems and PLC.
Experience in reciprocating Engine driven generation.
MR (truck) class preferred.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re looking for a Credit Coordinator to join us inan exciting and challenging role within TransAlta's credit management function that supports our proprietary and asset-backed trading, growth, and supply chain activities. Reporting to the Supervisor, Credit & customer Enablement, the Credit Coordinator role supports operational deliverables of the Credit team, including margining, reporting, and credit reviews. On an as needed basis, the role will provide support for the trade confirmation function.

This position is based at our Downtown Calgary Head Office, with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

Monitor, issue, and respond to margin calls. Process renewals, amendments, or cancellations to Letters of Credit, Bonds and Guarantees.
Work closely with internal and external business partners to ensure sufficient collateral is in place to support business needs.
Perform counterparty credit reviews, calculate and recommend counterparty credit limits, and manage credit / tenor limits and collateral in system.
Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly exposure and collateral reporting.
Coordinate counterparty insurance coverage and reporting associated with TransAlta’s wholesale and Commercial & Industrial business lines.
Operational support for the trade confirmation function.

ABOUT YOU

University Degree or College Diploma in the areas of Accounting, Economics, Finance, Risk Management or equivalent.
1-2 years work experience, preferably in a credit, treasury, or banking environment.
Strong Microsoft Excel and problem-solving skills. Experience with databases, credit assessment tools, external trade platforms, and ETRM systems would be an asset.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a dynamic multi-stakeholder environment.
Strong time management skills and with a demonstrated ability to prioritize time sensitive deliverables with minimal supervision.
An understanding of the commodity trading contracts (i.e., physical power and natural gas, financial swap, and futures contracts) would be an asset.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a highly skilled Supervisor, Master Data and Planning to join our team and play a critical role in improving planning, data integrity and supporting the successful migration to SAP S/4HANA. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing master data quality, streamlining data processes, and ensuring alignment with business objectives. This position will also focus on maintaining and optimizing asset and maintenance data to drive operational efficiency and support strategic business decisions

This position will also be accountable for work management process and support Seebe and Spray Supervisors managing operations and maintenance activities, and medium term planning. It will also ensure alignment with schedule of capital work to ensure all consequential work is brought forward to Routine manager to review business needs and right scope is carried out inside of a 0-to-12-month time horizon in accordance with TransAlta’s values, standards and work practices.

This is a full-time salaried position and is also considered a safety sensitive role. The successful candidate will be required to complete pre-employment testing.

This role is based out of our Seebe and Spray sites in the Bow Valley Region.

Specifics for Work Management
- Ensure accurate data for work orders, assets, and projects to support effective work management.
- Support Operations Supervisors in prioritizing daily activities and provide strategic planning leadership.
- Manage weekly maintenance planning and execution within a 12-month horizon.
- Engage and oversee contractors and service providers.
- Coordinate with Capital Projects to align scope and scheduling.
- Identify and report operational risks and opportunities.
- Support development of strategies to meet maintenance KPIs.
- Ensure compliance with TransAlta’s EHS and regulatory standards.
Master Data Management
- Oversee creation and maintenance of master data (Functional Locations, Equipment, Work Centers, Maintenance Plans, Notifications) in SAP.
- Implement data governance best practices to ensure consistency and integrity.
SAP Data Migration & Integration
- Conduct data profiling, cleansing, and validation for migration from legacy systems (e.g., Maximo, SAP ECC) to SAP S/4HANA.
- Maintain mapping documents and conversion specifications; support migration using SAP LTMC and related tools.
Process Optimization
- Streamline maintenance and asset management processes to improve data flow and reporting.
- Align practices with SAP’s Phase-Based Maintenance framework.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Partner with Maintenance, Operations, Finance, and Supply Chain to understand data needs and resolve issues.
- Provide training and support on master data processes and standards.
Reporting & Compliance
- Develop and maintain reports to support decision-making and compliance.
- Monitor data quality and implement controls to uphold accuracy.

ABOUT YOU

Minimum 10 years of hands-on SAP experience, with a strong focus on backend Work Management and Master Data Management. Proven expertise in managing Customer, Vendor, Business Partner, and Material master data within SAP ECC and/or SAP S/4HANA is essential.
Experienced Scheduling work in SAP and ability to work in fast work environment
Business process awareness in the respective areas of experience.
Very good understanding of technical requirements.
Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
Experience in data replication across SAP and non-SAP systems (Idocs, Web Services, replication models etc.)
Experience in data migration.
Ability to coordinate various tasks involving several different support teams

ABOUT THE ROLE

TransAlta is seeking a Manager, Environmental Planning & Permitting to lead our environmental planning and permitting efforts across our portfolio of renewable and natural gas-fired development projects. This position reports to the VP of Growth on a full time, permanent basis.

This role will manage a small team of Environmental Planners and work within a development matrix organization alongside key expert hubs such as Stakeholder and Governmental Relations, Regulatory affairs, Transmission and Interconnection, Resource and GIS, and Engineering.

We are specifically looking for a candidate with deep experience in U.S. natural gas generation permitting, particularly in the western United States. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record navigating complex permitting processes across multiple jurisdictions and technologies, and a demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary strategies for lage-scale energy projects.

This position is based out of our Downtown Calgary Head Office, with the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Candidates residing in Denver or San Diego or those interested in relocating will also be considered.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

Lead all environmental and permitting activities for the company’s renewable and natural gas development portfolio, from early-stage site evaluation through construction and into operations
Develop and implement permitting strategies that optimize timelines and minimize risks across multiple jurisdictions (local, state, federal), with a focus on U.S. natural gas generation projects
Lead and mentor a team of environmental professionals, ensuring consistent application of environmental policies across projects
Manage relationships and negotiations with regulatory agencies (e.g., state environmental agencies, local planning boards, EPA, BLM)
Oversee environmental planning processes to ensure compliance with local, state/provincial, and federal environmental regulations
Manage the acquisition of necessary permits and approvals, coordinating with regulatory agencies and ensuring timely submissions
Oversee the preparation and submission of environmental documents including Environmental Assessments, Environmental Impact Statements, Special Use Permits, Conditional Use Permits, and air, water, and land use permits
Collaborate with internal departments, external consultants, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders to address environmental, permitting, and regulatory concerns
Conduct and manage environmental and permitting due diligence for potential acquisitions, greenfield, and brownfield development opportunities
Monitor and interpret environmental laws and policies that could impact development, advising senior leadership accordingly
Manage third-party consultants, budgets, and timelines associated with environmental and permitting workstreams
Represent the company at public hearings, community meetings, and industry forums

ABOUT YOU

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, or a related field; advanced degrees or professional certifications (e.g., P.Ag, R.P.Bio) are an asset
10+ years of experience in environmental planning, permitting, and compliance, with a strong focus on U.S. natural gas generation projects
Proven experience obtaining air quality, water, wetland, and land use permits, including navigating NEPA, SEPA, and similar frameworks
In-depth understanding of environmental regulations across North American jurisdictions, especially in the western U.S.
Experience working with Independent Power Producers (IPPs)
Strong organizational and scheduling skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset suited to a matrixed organization
Familiarity with GIS mapping and environmental modeling tools
A strong network of regulatory contacts and consultants in key U.S. and Canadian markets
